The K9 unit together with SAPS Airwing arrested two suspects for allegedly stealing copper in Port Elizabeth.
Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the K9 unit received information from metro security about an ongoing problem with cable theft over the past two weeks.
Suspects stole cable to the value of R300 000 in Rensburg Street, Bethelsdorp.
Sergeant Adriaan Oosthuizen and his dog Max asked SAPS Airwing to assist them in an operation while his colleugues were combing the bushes on foot.
Naidu says the suspects were busy digging a trench and when they saw the police helicopter they started running.
Sergeant Oosthuizen and Max were dropped off and immediately apprehended the first suspect.
Minutes after the arrest Max apprehended a second suspect.
The men aged 20 and 30 are expected to appear in court soon.
