Western Cape police have welcomed the two life terms imposed on a 54-year-old man for killing two little girls in Albertinia in 2022.
Timothy Ova was sentenced in the High Court sitting in George last Thursday for the murders of Jacorene Vaaltyn (9), and Sharon Arries (10).
The autopsy report indicated that the two died due to suffocation.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Chris Spies, said “the meticulous investigation” by the Mossel Bay Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit, brought the investigation to this conclusion.
He said Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Thembisile Patekile praised their commitment in bringing the suspect to book.
Ova was arrested on 23 September 2022, a day after fleeing when the bodies of the two girls were found inside his premises on Jan Fiksaal Street in Albertinia.
He later pleaded not guilty to the charges of murder when his trial got underway in October 2023. Ova was convicted of the charges against him in March 2024.
Spies said he was also sentenced to six months for the indecent assault of the two girls, five months for defeating or obstructing the administration of justice, and two months for the illegal possession of ammunition.
