A man in his forties from Joubertina has drowned while swimming at the seafront at Jeffrey's Bay.
Local NSRI station commander Rieghard Janse van Rensburg says they were summoned to the scene at lunch time on Sunday.
Unidentified bystanders had already managed to pull the man from the surf and NSRI paramedics took over CPR efforts.
They were unable to revive the victim and he was declared dead at the scene.
Police have named the man as 47 year-old Frans Gerber.
