A 62 year old man from Johannesburg is due to appear in the Motherwell Magistrate's court on Monday on charges of dealing in drugs after being found in possession of 19 000 Mandrax tablets with an estimated value of R1m that was destined for distribution in the Western-and-Southern Cape.
Southern Cape police spokesperson, captain Malcolm Pojie says the man was arrested at the weekend in a joint intelligence-driven operation by members of the Western Cape Hawks Unit based in George, together with their counterparts from the Eastern Cape, on the N-2 between Port Elizabeth and George.
Based on information, they pulled over a suspicious Honda Ballade that was travelling towards the Western Cape and discovered packets filled with Mandrax tablets concealed in bags underneath various parts of the chassis of the vehicle.
A total of 19 000 tablets with an estimated value of R1m as well as the Honda Ballade were confiscated as evidence.
