Eastern Cape police have launched a murder investigation after a 79 year-old pensioner was found dead in his home in Jeffrey's Bay.
Sergeant Majola Nkohli says that at around 9pm on Tuesday night, an official from a private security company summoned the police to a house in Pride of India Crescent in Wavecrest, Jeffreys Bay, after the body of the elderly man was found in the bedroom.
The security company had been alerted by a relative living out of town who had been unable to get hold of the victim.
Sergeant Nkohli says the security personnel found the house locked and after obtaining permission, forced open one of the doors and found the victim deceased and tied to a chair in the bedroom.
His name is being witheld until the next-of-kin identify the body.
At this stage, a motive and the cause of death are unknown.
At the scene, a safe was found open but it is not clear if anything was stolen.
Police have opened a case of murder and are urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact Crime Stop 08600 10111.
