The husband of murdered Riebeek College teacher, Jayde Panayiotou, made a brief appearance in a packed Port Elizabeth magistrate's court on Monday morning.
The 28 year old Chris Panayiotou made his first appearance in the Port Elizabeth magistrates court on Monday. Dressed in a black suite, he showed no emotion and looked down during his brief court appearance. In a packed courtroom State Prosecutor Marius Stander read out the four charges against Panayiotou. He faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder. kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances and murder.
The Case was postponed to the 19th of June for further investigation. He will remain in custody.
Meanwhile, the police have announced the arrest of a third suspect, widely believed to be the shooter, in the murder of Jayde Panayiotou.
In a statement issued by police on Monday morning, Eastern Cape police spokesperson, Brigadier Marinda Mills, said the 30-year-old man was arrested in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth, on Sunday.
This brings the number of suspects behind bars to three.
Mills said police would not confirm or deny any speculations with regard to the motive for the murder, investigative methods used, or detail in relation to the involvement of the suspects in the execution of the crime.
She said questions of such nature would be ignored as this information forms part of the on-going police investigation and will be presented to court during the hearing.
