A 45-year-old woman has been sentenced to 13 years for fraud involving an amount of R4m.
The Hawks said that Lindy Johanna Sharp of Desptach was sentenced in the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court on Friday.
Spokesperson, Captain Anelisa Feni said that the fraud occurred while Sharp was employed as a bookkeeper at a Port Elizabeth electronics company.
The court heard that she had changed the banking details of creditors to that of her own and then transferred money from the company’s bank account into her personal account.
Feni said Sharp also awarded herself a lucrative salary and bonus increase without obtaining consent from the company’s Director.
The total amount of money that the company lost is approximately R4 million.
Sharp is already serving an effective six-year sentence for defrauding the South African Revenue Service of R2m.
Two years of that sentence was suspended for a period of 4 years.
