The 2020 Ironman African Championship in Nelson Mandela Bay has been postponed.
This followed a meeting on Friday between race officials and local authorities and also comes in the wake of a petition by a local resident who called for the event to be postponed due to concerns about the coronavirus pandemic.
In a brief statement, Ironman said that event, originally scheduled for 29 March, will now take place on 15 November 2020.
"Athletes that are registered for the event will receive an email with further details," the statement said.
"In what has been a continually evolving and challenging time globally, we recognize that the postponement may come as a disappointment but look forward to providing athletes with an exceptional race experience in the future," the Ironman statement added.
In an interview with Algoa FM, race director, Paul Woolf, said the Corporate Challenge will also be moved to November.
