The Independent Police Investigative Directorate will be probing the fatal shooting of a suspected robber in St Francis Bay on Monday.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Gerda Swart, says the suspect allegedly robbed an elderly woman after threatening her with a knife.
He then fled into bushes and when police arrived to search the area, the suspect failed to respond to police requests to hand himself over.
Swart says he later stormed out of the bushes and attempted to attack a police member with a knife.
She says the member fired a shot in self defence and the teenage suspect was fatally wounded.
