Port Elizabeth police have opened an attempted murder docket on behalf of a 16-year-old youth who was severely assaulted in Westering on Sunday.
Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the boy is lying in hospital with a cracked skull but cannot recall what happened to him.
She says he'd been drinking with a group of people at a house in Nicole Street in Westering when the incident took place.
It appears that he was beaten with a cricket bat.
Captain van Rensburg says the boy is being treated at Livingstone Hospital and that police are hoping to get more clarity on the matter once they've been able to take a statement from him.
