Instrument flight procedures for two Eastern Cape Airports have been approved by Air Traffic and Navigation Services.
ATNS has announced the suspension of restrictions of Instrument Flight Procedures (IFP) for Runway 14 at Mthatha Airport and it is now available for operations.
It says additionally, the IFP for Runway 11 at King Phalo Airport in East London has been approved and upliftment is expected on Thursday after regulatory publication.
ATNS says in a statement these developments are expected to provide relief to both airports, which are vulnerable to severe weather conditions that lead to flight disruptions.
Severe weather conditions in East London resulted in six flights being cancelled at the King Phalo Airport on Wednesday.
