Agri SA says it has identified the 10 most important issues which, if addressed constructively, can lead to a better dispensation for agriculture in South Africa.
Executive director, Hans van der Merwe says these include policy coherence in relation to agriculture, administered prices, agricultural research, labour and land reform.
"The recent labour unrest in the Western Cape caused concern in many circles including that of government and political business environment about the prospects of agriculture. We must see the concerns against the background of the National Planning Commission's vision for 2013 in which agriculture should play a critical role in the development of rural areas and job creation, most of this revolves around political decisions about policy, policy coherence, clear policy guidelines on where we want to head with agriculture, land reform matters but also the necessity to improve competitiveness" he said.
