The Eastern Cape Gambling and Betting Board will destroy 250 illegal gaming machines on Wednesday, effectively closing the chapter on a 12 year battle.
The machines, which had been seized from 5 illegal gaming halls in Port Elizabeth, had been the subject of investigation and litigation since 2001.
The CEO of the Eastern Cape Gambling and Betting Board, Mabutho Zwane, says the magistrate's court has finally granted the Board permission to destroy the machines, which will take place in Port Elizabeth.
He says illegal gambling is parasitic in nature, generating huge amounts of cash, but not contributing to the state's tax revenue.
