Three men are in police custody after allegedly kidnapping and shooting a home-owner in a house robbery outside Patensie in the Eastern Cape.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana says the drama unfolded at 8 pm on Sunday when the elderly couple was woken when someone broke into their farmhouse situated a few kilometres outside the town.
He says the couple was held at gunpoint before the house was ransacked.
Brigadier Kinana says the suspects forced the husband into his vehicle and ordered him to drive to Jeffreys Bay and Humansdorp where he was told to withdraw money.
It's further alleged that they took their victim to the bushes near Humansdorp where they shot him in the upper body and left him for dead.
However, he survived the shooting and managed to find his way to the road where he was eventually assisted by a passing police patrol.
Brigadier Kinana says details of the victim's stolen VW Golf were circulated and on Monday morning it was spotted travelling on the N10 near Cookhouse.
He says the car was pulled over and three occupants aged between 20 and 33 were arrested.
Police also confiscated two unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as groceries and a plasma TV.
The men are expected to appear in court soon where they will face several charges including attempted murder.
