The Eastern Cape Government has revealed that there were 565 government employees that were doing business with the provincial government and their businesses registered on the provincial database.
This was announced on Thursday by Premier Lubabalo Mabuyane, following this week’s meeting of the Provincial Executive Committee.
“The business transactions or procurement these employees had with the government was to the value of R4 474 136.07 in quarter four of the 2019/20 financial year and R46 954 872.83 in the first quarter of 2020/2021,” he said.
Mabuyane said only the Office of the Premier, Provincial Treasury and the Economic Development Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Safety and Liaison Departments do not have employees registered on the CSD and doing business with the state.
He said the Provincial Exco resolved that Heads of Departments must take necessary remedial action against potentially conflicted officials, the officials of departments responsible for sourcing quotations, bid evaluation committees and Supply Chain Management officials.
Mabuyane said they would provide a report on the actions taken in this regard to the Director-General in the Office of the Premier.
