Police stations under the East London cluster conducted several crime operations over the weekend.
A total of 162 suspects were arrested for various crimes, including murder, armed robbery, assault and dealing in drugs.
East London police spokesperson, Captain Stephen Marais, says the operations were conducted in conjuction with the community structures who play a vital role in assisting the police in combating crime.
Marais said all the suspects arrested would be appearing in the East London Magistrate Court soon.
