Nelson Mandela Bay's Disaster Management has evacuated hundreds of people following flooding and waterlogged conditions in the Metro's informal settlements.
Municipality spokesperson, Mthubanzi Mniki, said a total of 657 residents had been evacuated with numbers steadily growing.
"In the Greenbushes area, 45 people have been evacuated, while 350 residents have been evacuated from the Vastrap area. These people have been moved to the Kuyga and Booysens Park Community Halls. Another 220 people have been evacuated from an informal settlement in Lorraine. 42 people from the Fairview informal settlement have been evacuated to the Fairview Race Course," he said.
The PE branch of the SA Weather Service has warned of heavy rains over the entire Eastern Cape from tomorrow as a cut-off low moves over the country.
Mniki said the Metro's Disaster Management unit will remain on high alert.
