An Eastern Cape woman who allegedly embezzled an exorbitant amount of cash from her employer in Humansdorp has been arrested.
Forty-five-year-old Lana Nell, who used to work at a veterinary clinic in town, made a brief appearance in the District Court where she was remanded in custody.
Spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela says Nell worked in the financial department of the clinic and allegedly stole cash from her employer between January 2018 and February 2023.
She says the employer became suspicious when one of their suppliers complained about late payment.
Captain Mgolodela says the matter was reported to the Hawks who uncovered the theft of more than R3.5 million.
She says the money was reportedly transferred into her account over a period of five years.
