Humansdorp woman kidnapped to go and draw money at ATM

A 49-year-old woman was kidnapped from her home in Humansdorp on Wednesday and shoved into the car of armed suspects who demanded she withdraw money from her account at a local ATM.

A police spokesperson Captain Marius McCarthy says the woman was at home when two men entered her house at about 11 pm demanding money at gunpoint.

He says she only had an undisclosed amount of cash, a TV and phone, and they decided to tie her up with cable ties to accompany them to an ATM.

According to a source the victim was in the house with her son who was also tied up, however, police only confirmed that the victim was not home alone.

Captain McCarthy says outside the victim's home there were two more suspects sitting in a silver Volkswagen Polo, all wearing masks.

He says they first drove to the main road in Humansdorp but the machine was out of order.

The victim was then taken to Mentors Plaza in Jeffreys Bay where they withdrew money from her account.

Captain McCarthy says they dropped her off along the side of the road not far from Mentors Plaza where she managed to alert police to report the matter.

No arrests have been made.
