A Humansdorp man who has been on the run after escaping from police custody on Monday is back behind bars.
Eastern Cape police said that 20-year-old Fernando Swarts was re-arrested by members of a task team established to track him down.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Sibongile Soci, said he was located and arrested just before 2 pm on Wednesday in Kriege Street in Vaaldam in Humansdorp.
She said he will appear in court on Thursday on charges of escaping from lawful custody and business robbery, for which he was originally arrested on Monday.Details of his escape from custody form part of the ongoing investigation.
Humansdorp Cluster Commander, Brigadier John Lebok praised the task team for working tirelessly around the clock to ensure his apprehension.
"We are indeed turning the tide against crime and we will work around the clock to apprehend those who continue to undermine the authority of the State," he said.
