Damage that could run into millions of rands was caused on Thursday morning when a business centre in George caught alight.
The city's acting fire chief, Neels Barnard, says they received the call-out to George Business Park in the industrial area shortly before 1am.
He says while assessors have not yet put a value on the damage, it could be millions of rands.
In one business premises alone, some 21,000 tyres were destroyed.
No reports of injuries were received and the cause of the blaze is not yet known.
