A house in Seetuin Road in Jeffrey's Bay was struck by lightning on Monday night.
A Spokesperson for the Kouga Municipality Hattingh Bornman says there was some damage to the ceiling, three of the bedrooms and the roof.
He says firefighters managed to stop the blaze to minimise the damage.
Police also confirmed that nobody was injured.
He also observed data from their Lightning Detection Network (LDN), which is able to pinpoint lightning to the closest 500 m anywhere in the country.
Weather Office Spokesperson Garth Sampson says according to the LDN the lightning occurred between 9.36 pm and 22.14 pm which fits the timeline perfectly.
Sweltering heat gripped the Eastern Cape over the past 48 hours with scorching temperatures recorded in many parts of the province.
Sampson called the weather "typical Durban weather" and said it would start cooling down by Wednesday.
