A resident from Mossel Bay shot a house robber dead in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Captain Wollie Fourie of the Da Gamaskop Police Station says the man's home in Island View was also targeted on Tuesday night this week.
Fourie says the suspects removed burglar bars on the night in question but fled when the man's dog started barking.
The 50-year-old man slept with a pistol under his pillow and woke up when three men jumped through the bedroom window on Thursday morning.
One of the robbers sat on top of the 50-year-old man, where he and his 44 year old wife were sleeping.
During the struggle the victim grabbed a pistol that was under his pillow and fired several shots. The suspects then fled through the bedroom
window.
One of the men was found dead a few meters away.
The other two suspects are still at large.
The suspects were armed and wore gloves and balaclavas. An inquest docket has been opened and a case of house robbery is being investigated.
