The Weather Office says that Berg Wind conditions experienced in East London on Monday were very unusual, pushing the mercury beyond 40-degree mark.
The weather office says the 41.6 degrees measured was the highest on record for the month of November.
The SA Weather Service says East London has only experienced maximum temperatures of above 40 degrees on five occasions between 1961 and 2017.
The highest recorded figure was in October 1997 when the mercury climbed to a sweltering 42.9 degrees in East London.
