Very hot conditions with temperatures in excess of 40 degrees Celsius are expected over most of the Eastern Cape on Saturday, 3 December 2016.
SA Weather Service spokesperson, Garth Sampson, has advised people to avoid strenuous labour outdoors, and to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. "If outdoors, the public should wear a hat and put on sunblock to avoid burnt skin and sunstroke. Some interior stations may experience extremely hot conditions," Sampson said. Conditions favourable for the spread of veld fires are expected in especially the interior. People should not make any open fires, including braais.
No open fires are allowed under these conditions, including braai's.
Sampson says temperatures will cool down overnight Saturday into Sunday morning, when a strong south-westerly wind move along the coastline. Sunday is expected to be warm with temperatures in the mid-20's. "The hot conditions are due to a deep surface trough over the central interior of South Africa with light winds in circulation. Some relief can be expected, when a weak cold front will pass south of the country in the early hours of Sunday morning," Sampson said.
Some expected maximum temperatures expected on Saturday, are Port Elizabeth 27, Uitenhage 35, Grahamstown 37, Cradock 41, Graaff-Reinet 42, East London 28, Port St. Johns 32, Mthatha 37, Queenstown 39, King Williams Town 37 and Plettenberg Bay 24.
