A 64-year-old woman has been stabbed to death by a young boy during an attempted robbery at a farm outside George.
Southern Cape police spokesperson, Captain Malcom Pojie says it is believed that the 16-year-old boy gained access to the house at Dagbreek farm through a kitchen window yesterday.
He says the woman, who was sleeping with her husband at the time, woke up to investigate the noise, when she was repeatedly stabbed in the chest.
Pojie says the husband went to investigate after hearing the commotion, and a fight ensued and he was also stabbed. He however managed to fire several shots, wounding the intruder.
He says the suspect was shot in the face and shoulder. He tried to flee, but he was arrested by police not far from the house.
The woman was declared dead at the scene, and the husband was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
Pojie says the suspect is currently in hospital under heavy police guard.
