Police in the Port Alfred cluster have opened up an inquest docket following the discovery of skeletal remains on a beach in Boknes.
Spokesperson Captain Mali Govender says two family members were walking along the beach close to the lagoon on Sunday when one man came across, what he initially thought was a round stone.
She says he started digging and soon discovered that it was the skull of a human being.
Govender says police were summoned to the scene who then discovered more remains.
The bones will now be sent to the Forensics Department for further analysis.
Govender says they have no record of a missing person in the area and detectives will now try to establish his/her identity.
An appeal is made to the community who may be aware of any persons who went missing and their bodies not recovered to contact Sgt Gxogxo of the Alexandria SAPS Detectives on 046-6530248 during office hours
