Hefty sentences for panga wielding robbers who terrorised motorists on Addo road

Three armed robbers have received lengthy jail sentences in the Motherwell Regional Court in Port Elizabeth.

The 52-year-old Sakumzi Ntando, 39-year-old Xolani Yeye and 41-year-old Xolani Namba were jailed last week on ten charges following 6 incidents of robbery, hijacking, rape and sexual assault that took place during March of 2014.

Captain Andre Beetge says their crime spree was committed on the R335 and R334 roads close to Motherwell when they forced motorists to stop by herding cattle into their path or took advantage of people parked on the side of the road.

The suspects armed with pangas, axes and firearms then smashed the vehicle windows and accosted their victims.

Ntando received the heaviest sentence of life plus 65 years, Yeye will sit for 15 years and Namba for ten.

Motherwell Cluster Commander, Major General Dawie Rabie applauded the sentences and praised all the role players and detectives that ensured a lengthy jail term for these criminals.
