At least three people died when a car with four occupants was swept away by floodwater following heavy rains near Dutywa in the Eastern Cape on Saturday.
The Amathole District Municipality says details of the deceased have not yet been released by the relevant authorities.
It says many households have been damaged in Mnquma and Mbhashe Local Municipalities - including a school in Willowvale.
Disaster management teams have been dispatched to both municipalities.
The District Municipality says a multidisciplinary approach will be undertaken to ensure immediate social relief support to affected communities.
ADM Executive Mayor, Nceba Ndikinda and his Mayoral Committee Members will visit the affected areas on Sunday.
