The Western Cape Education Department is investigating an incident in which a headmaster from a school near Mossel Bay allegedly beat a seven-year-old boy with a plank.
The incident allegedly happened on Tuesday at the school's hostel.
The boy's mother says the headmaster hit her child because "he did not fold his clothes correctly."
She has opened a case of assault against the headmaster.
According to the Western Cape education department spokesperson, Millicent Merten the incident is being investigated.
Merten says the department is giving the child and his parents the necessary support.
