Eastern Cape police are mourning the loss of a Port Elizabeth policeman who was shot and killed in Bethelsdorp, Port Elizabeth on Saturday.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, said the body of 37-year-old Sergeant De Porres Frieslaar, was found inside his car in Wallflower Street with a bullet wound to the head.
He said Frieslaar, who was stationed at Kabega Park SAPS, was off-duty at the time.
Kinana said the motive for the shooting is not yet known and no arrests have yet been made.
He said the Hawks are investigating the policeman’s murder.
Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Liziwe Nthsinga, condemned Frieslaar’s murder and appealed to the public to come forward with information that could assist the police investigation.
