The Hawks are searching for at least three suspects after a retired Brigadier, Joseph Jongile, was gunned down in his East London home on Friday night.
Hawks Eastern Cape spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, said the intruders entered his Baysville property through the backyard "where they went to the basement and found his son."
She said they forced him at gunpoint to knock on the door of the main house where they were met by his wife, who she said screamed, alerting her husband who was upstairs.
Mgolodela said when he came down from the top floor, he was fatally wounded by one of the men.
She said the distraught woman and her son were tied up in “separate rooms” before the men ransacked the house taking cell phones, laptops, bicycles, and bank cards.
Mgolodela said they were searching for three suspects.
Anyone who may have information that could assist the investigation should contact their nearest police station.
