A Hawks task team has arrested a 34 year old suspect for the alleged murder of Eastern Cape police sergeant Xolani Sowambi.
Spokesperson, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi says the suspect was arrested in Queenstown on Tuesday, and an unlicensed firearm was seized.
Sowambi (35) was allegedly hijacked and killed whilst en-route to work on Saturday.
Mulaudzi says his private vehicle was found in Whittlesea, following an all-night search by the police.
He says two suspects were seen running away after being stopped by police.
The 34 year old suspect is expected to appear in the Queenstown Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
The search for the second suspect is continuing.
