A 27-year old Hartenbos man, charged with attempted murder, after severely abusing his 4 month old son, will appear in the Mossel Bay Regional court on Monday.
Tertius van den Bergh presumably abused the child in August 2012.
The abuse came to light when the baby went for a routine check-up at a local pharmacy.
The head of the police's Investigative Psychology Section, Brigadier Gerhard Labuschagne, will be testifying for the state.
Van den Bergh pleaded that he was temporarily insane at the time of the incident.
During a previous court appearance a doctor from the Red Cross Children's Hospital testified that the nature of the child's injuries and the impact of it can be compared to a car accident.
Baby van den Bergh had a broken leg, ten broken ribs, a life threatening head injury and other fractures in his body. He has since been placed in foster care. The child will never be able to function normal again.
