A man who fleeced a Gqeberha woman out of hundreds of thousands of rands has been convicted of the crime in the city's regional court.
Hawks Eastern Cape spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, says 35-year-old Raydson Ntsala was convicted in Gqeberha on Thursday.
She says Ntsala hacked into the email of the victim while she was visiting her daughter in Germany in 2017.
He pretended to be her broker who had previously indicated that he wanted to make an investment of R350 000 on her behalf.
The victim, who was under the impression that she was talking to her actual broker authorised the amount, but when she later followed up on the deal her broker was none the wiser.
Captain Mgolodela said she then realised that she had been hacked and reported the matter to the Hawks.
Ntsala was eventually arrested in Rustenburg on the 28th of January this year and transported to Gqeberha to appear in court.
He will be sentenced in January 2022.
