'Habitual' PE criminal finally sent to jail


A 25-year-old Port Elizabeth man who conducted a crime spree between 2013 and 2017 has finally been jailed.

Police said habitual criminal, Nathaniel Stokes, was sentenced on Friday to an effective 21 years behind bars for a series of crime committed in the Bethelsdorp area over the past few years.

He was finally arrested in March last year and remained in custody until sentencing.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said Stokes was convicted on 14 charges that included house-breaking and theft, the theft from and of numerous vehicles as well as the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Mount Road Cluster Commander, Major Gen Thembisile Patekile commended the investigating officer, D/Sgt Attie Knoetze in linking the accused to so many cases. ‘

"It is clear that the accused committed these crimes out of greed and exploited the community. He will now spend a long time behind bars," he added.
