Gyrocopter crashes on farm near Patensie

A gyrocopter pilot has sustained serious injuries after his aircraft crashed on a farm in the Patensie area on Friday afternoon.

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer, Gerda Swart, says 23-year-old Marco Martino from France was reportedly busy dropping coddling moths into a field as part of a pest control problem when the gyrocopter crashed and caught alight.

She says Martino was airlifted to a hospital in Port Elizabeth.

It's understood that man sustained burns wounds over 90 percent of his body.
