Gunmen opened fire on a police vehicle and the car of an off-duty policeman in the Helenvale area in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The members were on patrol when shots were fired at the police van, hitting the vehicle twice.
Labans says almost simultaneously the gunmen shot at an off-duty policeman driving his private car shattering the back window.
He says no one was injured in both cases and no arrests were made.
In another unrelated incident a man was shot in a suspected gang-related shooting also in Helenvale.
He says the victim was talking to someone in Pienaar Street on Tuesday at around lunch-time when two men approached.
They opened fire, hitting him in the mouth, hand and chest.
The victim was admitted to hospital and police are investigating a case of attempted murder.
