The Anti-Gang Unit in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday recovered three firearms and arrested one suspect in two separate incidents in the cities Northern Areas.
Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says police were en route to a complaint in Bethelsdorp when they noticed a group of men, who are known gangsters, walking in Blueberry Street.
She says the moment they spotted police they started running and tossed two firearms in a yard.
Naidu says both firearms are pistols with the one reported stolen in Durbanville over 27 years ago.
She says later on Wednesday morning the Gelvandale police noticed men standing around in Kobus road and when they stopped their vehicle, the one suspect started running.
Police managed to swiftly arrest the 28-year-old suspect who dropped his firearm in front of police.
Naidu says the pistol was reported stolen in Bloemfontein 17 years ago, while a second suspect who fled the scene tossed a firearm into a yard in Gail road.
The suspect will appear in court soon.
