There was drama in Grahamstown's African Street on Monday morning when a gunman shot and wounded a security guard and fled with the drop safe the guard had been carrying.
Police captain, Mali Govender, says the security guard's colleague gave chase in their security vehicle and the suspect dropped the safe.
She says he and another suspect then hijacked a bakkie in a nearby street to make their getaway.
The bakkie was recovered later.
Govender says the security guard is in a stable condition in hospital.
