Grey Junior School in Port Elizabeth is appealing to the parents of its learners to keep their boys at home for the next two days, if at all possible following an outbreak of what appears to be Influenza A.
Headmaster Lindsay Pearson, who is himself dealing with a cold, says 20% of his staff were also absent on Monday along with 130 learners out of a total school compliment of 797 - which is also roughly 20%.
Another 20 boys were sent home during the course of the day.
Pearson says all after school activities have also been cancelled.
He says they would prefer all children to stay at home but parents who do not have another alternative can bring their kids to school.
Pearson says the hope is that by keeping the boys at home for two days, everyone will be fit and healthy for the start of exams on Thursday.
