Great Brak River police open inquest following discovery of school girl

The Great Brak River Police have opened an inquest docket after the body of a 15-year old school girl was found in a bushy area in the neighbourhood a few weeks ago.

DNA tests confirmed that it was the body of Elouise Witbooi.

Correspondent Louise Karsten reports.

Although it is suspected that the school girl was raped and murdered, police did not open a murder docket as the cause of death could not yet be determined due to the decomposed state of her body.

Southern Cape Police Spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie, says police opened the inquest docket for the specific reason to try and determine how the deceased died.

He said that several tests will still be conducted on her clothing and that if more evidence comes to light, indicating foul play, a murder docket will be opened.

The girl was missing since October last year and was the only child of her parents.
