Granny faces murder charge after hacking intruder with axe

A 75 year old granny from Nophakathi Location Nombanjana Village Centane will appear in court on Monday on a charge of murder, after hacking an intruder with an axe.

Police Spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha says the 55 year old Mzwabunthu Wabhena, who was related to the granny, kicked open her door in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The lady grabbed an axe and hit the man in his upper body before screaming for help.

The man was still alive when community members arrived at the scene, but he died on the way to hospital.

It is unclear at this stage why this family member entered the granny's house at that time of the morning.
