Taxi organisations in Grahamstown embarked on a strike on Wednesday morning, to protest over the poor maintenance of the city's roads.
Police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender says both local taxi organisations handed over a memorandum of their grievances to the Makana Municipality.
She says their biggest concern is potholes not being repaired.
Govender says taxi drivers complain that they can't get from one point to the other quick enough, and their vehicles tyres get damaged.
The strike action also affects the current protests at Rhodes University, as students can't get to the campus to join marches.
