Residents of Nelson Mandela Bay were spared load shedding on Tuesday night as a result of an apparent go-slow by officials in the Metro's Electricity and Energy Directorate.
Newly-elected mayor, Retief Odendaal, said in a Facebook post that the action came after he had written to staff to highlight concerns about the break-down in trust between employees and the employer.
He said it was his wish to restore that relationship.
However, Odendaal said no sooner had the letter been sent, then he learned about the go-slow by Directorate officials.
He said this had resulted in many residents left without electricity due to some technical faults on the grid, as well as the Metro's inability to implement load shedding.
“It is very unfortunate that the breakdown of relations between municipal staff and the municipality has now started to impact negatively on our service delivery to our residents,” he said.
