Gqeberha SAPS on high alert as foreign shops are petrol-bombed

Two foreign-owned Spaza shops were petrol bombed in Gqeberha on Wednesday night.

Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said one incident was reported in Zwide and another in Kwazakhele.

She says no injuries were reported.

Police are, however, on high alert following Wednesday's chaos in Korsten where eight taxi's were torched and two vehicles damaged.

The commotion started at around 2 pm when an accident between two vehicles resulted in a driver being assaulted.

Naidu said it's alleged that several men got out of their minibus taxi's and began assaulting the driver of an Audi involved in the accident.

"Businessmen in the area immediately came to the assistance of the Audi driver. The driver got into his vehicle and drove further up the road where his vehicle stalled. A group of taxi drivers attacked him and set his vehicle alight," she said.
