An alleged robbery suspect has died after his getaway vehicle was involved in a three-car collision, shortly after an armed business robbery in Sidwell, on Friday.
Police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge, said he was one of five suspects who robbed a retail shop on the corners of Kempston and Standford Road before 11 a.m.
Beetge said a female cashier was shot in her leg during the incident before they fled the scene in a white Honda Ballade and a silver Citroen with an undisclosed amount of money, a cell phone and stock with an estimated value of R5 000.
He said during their getaway the Ballade collided with a red Volkswagen Caddy which subsequently bumped into a truck at the corners of Kempston and Neil Boss Roads.
The suspect who was driving the car died at the scene.
Beetge said the others fled, while a second suspect was injured and taken to hospital for medical treatment, along with the driver of the Caddy.
The truck driver did not sustain injuries.
He said some of the stolen property was found in the Ballade.
The names of the deceased and injured are unknown at this stage and more arrests are expected.
