Gqeberha police have arrested a 22-year-old man and recovered a firearm, following the fatal shooting of a 5-year-old girl in Bethelsdorp.
Spokesperson, Colonel Pricilla Naidu says three children, two boys aged 6 and the little girl were playing with a firearm on Thursday when a shot went off.
The girl was taken to hospital with a wound to the head but succumbed late that night.
Naidu says at this stage, it is unclear which of the boys accidentally shot the girl.
She says when police arrived at the house, the firearm was allegedly removed and could not be found.
After following up on several leads, members of the Anti-Gang Unit arrested a man in Cleary Park on Friday on a charge of defeating the ends of justice.
A revolver, that was allegedly used in the shooting, was found in a stormwater drain.
The firearm will be sent for ballistic analysis and the investigation is ongoing.
