Gqeberha man convicted of tax fraud

File

A Gqeberha man has been convicted on numerous counts of tax fraud in the city’s Regional Court.

Hawks Eastern Cape spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, said 47-year-old Fabiani Ali was found guilty on Wednesday.

She said Ali furnished fraudulent information to the South African Revenue Service on his Value Added Tax returns and also failed to submit tax IT14 and ITR14 tax returns for several years.

“Invoices submitted to SARS were also said to be forged,” she said.

Mgolodela said the matter was reported to the Hawks which led to Ali’s arrest and first court appearance last February.

She said Hawks investigations revealed that Ali prejudiced SARS to the value of more than R1.5 million.

He will be sentenced in April.
