Eastern Cape police have arrested a 33-year-old suspect from Gqeberha in Mthatha for being in possession of a large number of drugs.
Spokesperson, Colonel Pricilla Naidu says members of the Tactical Response Team followed up on information received of a suspicious person driving a silver Toyota Etios on Friday.
She says the vehicle was stopped and searched in Nelson Mandela Drive and a substantial amount of money was found on the passenger seat, as well as a huge consignment of mandrax tablets which was found hidden in the door panels of the vehicle.
Colonel Naidu says police confiscated a total of 8 928 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R700 000.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Mthatha Magistrate's Court on Monday.
